Camelot Fabrics Instagram Take Over (Part 1)

Image
This weekend I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to guest post on the Camelot Fabrics Instagram account. It was so much fun to share my experiences of life as a designer and to get feedback from the sewing and quilting community who will be using my designs for their fabulous creations! I loved it!  But in case you aren't on Instagram I thought I would add some of the posts below so that you can still follow along and get to know me better!  Hi! I’m Vicky Yorke and I’m a surface pattern designer and illustrator living in semi-rural Worcestershire, UK. I’m lucky enough to license my collections with Camelot Fabrics and I’m super-excited to be taking over the Camelot Instagram feed for the next few days so that you can get to know me better and learn more about my life as a designer! Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments section under my posts. You can also read about me in more detail on the  Camelot Fabrics blog.  I work in two ways as

New Collection - Camelot Fabrics: URBAN JUNGLE

Image
I’m delighted to announce my third collection for Camelot Fabrics has launched on their website . It’s called ‘Urban Jungle’ and features cats... ...dogs... ... as well as pretty meadow flowers!  While I do like dogs, I am most definitely a cat lover and this collection was initially inspired by watching my beautiful kitty moving around our garden with the beauty and grace of her wild big cat relatives - Our garden is definitely her jungle!  Camelot Fabrics say: "Guys, it’s an urban jungle out there. But Vicky Yorke’s cheerful prints, raining cats and dogs, bring a smile to the city. After all, a house just isn’t a home without a dog (or cat). And a cat (or dog) is not happy without a quilt." In addition to my repeat prints, this collection also features my hand drawn typography across two placement half-panels, which read  'A house is not a home without a cat' / 'Beware of the garden

I'm the winner of the Really Good Design Search!

Image
A few months ago I entered the Really Good design search to find:  "... the best, most original, and commercial range of designs that are suitable for cards, stationery and/or gifts." ( David Hicks ) The competition was being judged by some of the most influential people in the UK greetings and gift market, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some of my newest designs in front of industry experts including  WHSmith buyer  Claire Castle ;  Alan Harnik , president of US distributor Notes & Queries;  Jenny Cummins , MD of Australian distributor Macmillan Cards; Postmark’s managing director,  Mark Janson-Smith  and Progressive Greeting’s editor  Jakki Brown.   At PG Live in London in June it was announced I had made the shortlist of 4 finalists . And at the Harrogate gift fair on July 16th it was announced that I have won ! I could not be more surprised as the other finalists were very strong designers with wonderful and original design
