New Collection - Camelot Fabrics: Home On The Prairie

I am so happy to announce that my fourth collection for Camelot Fabrics has launched on their website. ‘Home On The Prairie’ is one of my favourite collections, showcasing a warm and earthy colour palette and focussing on my favourite theme of nature.

My inspiration comes in many forms, but the initial inspiration for this collection was a WGSN trend brief I was given while taking part in the Make It In Design Winter School at the beginning of the year. It's a great mini-course that gets the creative juices flowing and encourages you to experiment with your design process.

I had some tiles in the studio (- and inspired by the theme of prairie quilts and geometric-floral patterns) I drew directly onto the tiles.

I realised I would need a softer line for the final prints, so I then traced back over each of the prints to create slightly looser pen and ink drawings.

These formed the basis of my Prairie quilt design.

I always like to keep one eye on trends and often use them as a catalyst for new collections. This print really appealed to my design aesthetic, so after the course I decided to research the Prairie trend a little bit more...

I found that the original print held elements that could be broken back down to create new and exciting block-print-look geometric patterns...

To keep the collection soft and to add contrast to the sharper lines of the geometric patterns I decided to add in additional elements, so the collection also includes delicate ditsy print prairie flowers ...

...and folk inspired prairie hares. This print has become one of my all-time favourite designs, mixing the prairie style with my modern style of art nouveau.

I also created a number of placement graphics for this collection, several of which are available from Camelot as a panel, perfect for easy cushion making, featuring Prairie inspired phrases such as 'Blessed', 'Home', 'Home Sweet Home', and 'Home Is Where We Are'. (Many of these designs are also available from partners iCanvas as wall art).

Camelot have provided all the instructions you need to create your own prairie table runner project. Click here for instructions.

Camelot Fabrics say:

Terra cotta tiles meet down-home comfort in the latest line by British designer Vicky Yorke. The collection is lavish yet subtle in its blend of intricate stylized details with a tight earth-tone palette, a maximalist/minimalist’s paradise. We dream of layers upon layers of pillows, quilts and table linens pulled from a cedar chest.

I could not be happier that Camelot are printing these patterns on their beautiful fabrics. The collection hits stores
May 2019, but you can preview it here and ask your local fabric store to pre-order now 😊
