I'm delighted to finally be able to share with you that I have collaborated with Captivate Brands Ltd. on a new collection of beautiful licensed mugs.
'Midwinter' is a selection of designs inspired by the forest with patterns including forest flora, oak leaves, trees and forest animals including foxes, hares and birds. It's a cosy collection that is perfect for transitional interiors between Autumn and Winter with the colour palette making it perfect for Christmas and the festive season too.
I worked closely with Captivate over a number of months to help them select some of my favourite and most on trend designs, and we have teamed these with fashionable shapes to create a fresh and stylish selection of 40 mug designs co-branded under their
Siip Fundamental collection.
'Contoured' is a collection of continuous line drawings and here fashionable and stylish face illustrations are adorned with flower crowns in honour of female strength and unity.
There are mini collections within the overall collection, so that you can choose your favourite style and then mix and match the colours and designs if you should wish. I love to create collections of different patterns or illustrations that can be used on their own, or look beautiful when styled together in your home.
'Posy' features expressive hand painted floral patterns that are bright, vibrant and modern to bring joy to your home. Captivate Brands has chosen a number of different print themes in order to appeal to a wide selection of interior tastes. There is a colour and design for virtually every kitchen style.
'Abundant Nature' celebrates my love of nature and the Art Nouveau art movement. Objects found in nature - such as fruit and leaves, often become the focus for my patterns and are reinterpreted in my unique modern Art Nouveau style to create modern-classic pieces.
Mugs are made in a variety of ceramic materials from stoneware to fine china, with the material selected to complement the design.
A selection of designs from my popular 'Simplicity' collection have been paired with this clean and ergonomic mug shape. The wax resist effect design against the smooth glaze creates a mug that is calming and satisfying to hold, while the paired back design aims to promote a positive energy and an overall feeling of wellbeing.
Interesting finishes like faux raw bases and wax resist effect glazes have been applied on some designs, so that the mugs not only look beautiful, but they feel lovely to hold too.
'Emote' focusses on texture and the trend for ergonomics in homeware. Inspired by the earth, and rock formations, the mug designs are taken directly from my mark-making paintings, with the patterns created on the mugs with a wax resist glaze. The intention is that the mugs are tactile and the globe shape makes them comforting to hold.
I had a lot of fun thinking about the mug forms and how these would work with the patterns. It was important to me to create some stand out pieces in the collection and that the patterns and mug shapes made sense together.
For my fun and quirky I.O.U. collection I knew the shape needed to reflect the boldness of the designs, while also having a cute and playful feel. I suggested a standard, but oversized cup shape with a heart shaped handle and was delighted with how my drawings were interpreted by Captivate. Filling the inners of these mugs with a bright contrasting glaze also really helps to make the designs pop!
The "I.O.U. Collection" patterns were designed at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic as a way for me to spread a little bit of warmth and positivity back into the world. The name I.O.U. is an abbreviation of 'I owe you' and comes from a time when it wasn't possible to physically share love and hugs, so the next best thing was an I.O.U. Their joyful message continues to bring happiness - Everyone needs colourful hearts and rainbows to make them smile and there really is nothing better than a hug in a mug! Spreading positivity is a very important part of the Vicky Yorke Designs brand and Captivate Brands has embraced this with a number of mini collections including 'Simplicity' where my designs feature encouragement in a sophisticated understated way; the bold pattern statements of 'I.O.U.' and through the inspirational typography on some of the mugs in my 'Folk Florals' collection.
'Folk Florals' is a large nature inspired collection, where imagined florals have been illustrated and placed into patterns and designs inspired by folk art. Some are paired with inspirational sayings while others let the pattern make the statement. Contrasting brightly glazed inners accentuate the designs and give the mugs a contemporary style.
The fine china 'Folk Floral' modern-classic designs can be used alone, or mixed and matched for a statement mug display - the perfect accessories in any modern kitchen.
'The Cottage' is a group of floral mug designs that embrace the current cottage-core culture. Once again my patterns were inspired by nature with flower illustrations including primroses, larkspurs, marigolds and asters. The mug shape is ergonomic and easy to hold and the overall style is perfect for a modern country kitchen. My home in the Worcestershire countryside is a great source of inspiration for the collections I create and Captivate have really embraced my modern Art Nouveau nature patterns, which celebrate everything from fresh and juicy fruits in 'Abundant Nature' and 'Fruitful Lands', to forest themes in 'Midwinter' and floral prints in 'Posy', 'Folk Florals' and 'The Cottage'.
'Fruitful Lands' pairs my hand painted patterns of succulent strawberries and zesty lemons with a modern chunky fine china shape for a set of mugs that is fresh and stylish. While much of my work is decorative, there is a side to my portfolio that is a little more tongue in cheek as I am a big fan of puns... My 'Wild At Heart' designs are bold and colourful and once again aim to raise a smile!
A group of animal pun designs from my competition winning design collection, 'Wild At Heart' have been added to mugs for the very first time by Captivate.
